Walsgrave sits in the CV2 district, 3.2 miles north-east of the city centre, and we render there regularly. Work ranges from a single failed elevation to a full re-render with insulation. We survey the wall first, because the right system depends on what the wall is built of, then put the recommendation and the price in writing.

Everything your Walsgrave property needs
The render systems we fit on Walsgrave properties, and the repairs we carry out where existing render has cracked, blown or let water through.
Silicone Thin-Coat Render
Vapour-permeable silicone render in a colour that runs right through the material, so there is no paint film to flake or fade.
K-Rend & Monocouche
The textured, through-coloured finish most people mean by K-Rend, applied and scratched back once it has firmed up.
Sand & Cement Rendering
The traditional two-coat system. Still the right answer for matching existing work and for repairs where a modern topcoat would stand out.
Pebbledash & Roughcast
We still apply dash and roughcast where it suits the property — and we take tired dash back to a smooth modern finish where it does not.
Render Repairs & Crack Repair
Crack and blown-render repair that deals with the cause first. Filling the surface over a live problem only buys a season.
External Wall Insulation
The option when the wall is cold as well as tired. It thickens the wall, so reveals, sills and the roofline are reworked to suit.

What we check on a property in Walsgrave
Every quote starts with a survey. These are the things we look at on rendering work in Walsgrave, and why each one changes the recommendation.
Abutments with neighbouring property
On terraces and semis the render has to stop cleanly at the boundary. We check where that line falls and how it will be finished, because a ragged junction is what everyone sees from the street.
Ground levels at the base of the wall
Soil, paving or a raised border sitting against the wall will defeat even a perfect render. We measure the gap between ground level and the damp-proof course and flag where it needs lowering.
Existing paint and coatings
Masonry paint, textured coatings and old waterproofers all affect adhesion and breathability. Some have to come off entirely; others can be bonded over. Which it is depends on what is there and how well it is stuck.
The sill and reveal detail
Window sills need enough projection to throw water clear of the new face. Where added thickness leaves a sill too shallow, we say so at quote stage rather than discovering it with the scaffold up.
What the wall is actually built of
Solid brick, cavity brick, concrete panel and blockwork all behave differently, and a solid wall needs a breathable build-up. Identifying the substrate decides the system, so we establish it before recommending anything.
Sealant and beading at openings
Window and door perimeters are where most water actually enters. We check the sealant joint, the reveal detail, and whether the render was beaded properly at the frame rather than butted up and left.

Speak to us today0786 5778332How far is Walsgrave from your base?
Walsgrave is roughly 3.2 miles north-east of Coventry city centre. That is close enough that a survey can normally be arranged within a few days, and close enough that coming back afterwards is never a problem.
Which areas near Walsgrave do you also cover?
The closest are Henley Green (about 0.9 miles away), Wyken (about 1 mile away), Bell Green (about 1.5 miles away) and Ansty (about 1.5 miles away). All of them are inside our normal working area, so a property on the boundary is no different to one in the middle of Walsgrave. If you are unsure which area you count as, the postcode settles it.
What is external wall insulation, and is it different from rendering?
External wall insulation is insulation board mechanically fixed and bonded to the outside of the wall, then rendered over with a reinforced basecoat and a topcoat. You get a rendered finish, so it looks like a render job, but it is really an insulation job with a render skin. It thickens the wall, so window reveals, sills, the roofline and all the rainwater goods have to be reworked to suit.
Can you render over existing pebbledash?
Usually yes, and it is one of the most common jobs we are asked for. The test is whether the dash is still firmly bonded: we tap across the elevation listening for hollow areas, check for cracks and loose aggregate, and cut out anything that has debonded. A sound dash takes a levelling coat and then a modern smooth or lightly textured finish. A dash that is blowing in large patches is better removed.
Can you render in winter, or in the rain?
Not in freezing conditions. Cement-based renders should not be applied when the substrate is frozen or when temperatures are heading below about 5°C, because frost in an uncured render destroys the bond. Rain on fresh render washes out fines and streaks the colour. Winter rendering is possible in a settled mild spell with sheeted scaffold, but we will move the dates rather than gamble on the forecast.
What does it mean when render is blown?
Blown or hollow render has lost its bond with the wall behind and is being held on by its edges. It sounds hollow when tapped and often sits slightly proud. The usual causes are water getting behind it, a poorly prepared or dusty substrate, or frost getting into it before it cured. Blown render has to be cut back to a sound edge and rebuilt — filling the crack on the surface achieves nothing.
How much does rendering cost in Walsgrave?
As a guide, external rendering in Walsgrave typically costs between £40 and £70 per square metre, depending on the system used and whether scaffolding is required. A full three-bedroom house generally falls between £2,500 and £5,000, while larger detached properties are usually in the £9,000 to £12,000 range. Every job gets a free, fixed written quote before any work starts.
