What we check on a property in Canley
Every quote starts with a survey. These are the things we look at on rendering work in Canley, and why each one changes the recommendation.
Substrate suction and dust
A dusty, friable or highly absorbent wall will pull water out of the basecoat and ruin the bond. We test suction and specify the primer or stabiliser the wall actually needs instead of applying a standard one.
Meter boxes, flues and external fittings
Gas and electric boxes, boiler flues, outside taps, alarm bells and satellite brackets all have to come off and go back at the new wall thickness. Missing one at survey is how a job overruns.
Airbricks and ventilation
Rendering over an airbrick blocks the under-floor ventilation it exists to provide. We locate every vent and airbrick first and sleeve them through the new render rather than losing them.
Downpipe and overflow positions
Pipes have to be removed and refitted clear of the new surface, with the right standoff. Overflows that discharge onto the wall are worth rerouting while the scaffold is up rather than staining a new finish.
Abutments with neighbouring property
On terraces and semis the render has to stop cleanly at the boundary. We check where that line falls and how it will be finished, because a ragged junction is what everyone sees from the street.
Exposure of each elevation
The prevailing-weather face takes far more water than a sheltered one and often fails first. We note exposure per elevation, which sometimes means the sensible job is one or two faces now rather than all four.

Speak to us today0786 5778332Is Canley inside your normal service area?
Yes, and so is everything immediately around it: Tile Hill (about 0.7 miles away), Westwood Heath (about 0.8 miles away), Mount Nod (about 1.2 miles away) and Eastern Green (about 1.5 miles away). We cover the whole of Coventry, so there is no travel charge for any of them and no minimum job value.
Which part of Canley do you cover?
All of it — the streets around Canley Corridor included. Where a property sits matters less to us than what the access is like, which is something we look at on the survey rather than guessing from an address.
Can render be repaired, or does the whole wall need doing?
It can often be repaired. A localised blown patch gets cut back to a sound edge, rebuilt in matching material and feathered in. The honest limitation is colour and texture: an aged render will never be invisibly matched, and on a thin-coat system a patch repair tends to show. Where appearance matters we will suggest re-rendering the whole elevation to a natural break rather than promising an invisible patch.
Can you render over existing pebbledash?
Usually yes, and it is one of the most common jobs we are asked for. The test is whether the dash is still firmly bonded: we tap across the elevation listening for hollow areas, check for cracks and loose aggregate, and cut out anything that has debonded. A sound dash takes a levelling coat and then a modern smooth or lightly textured finish. A dash that is blowing in large patches is better removed.
What is monocouche render?
Monocouche means one coat. It is a through-coloured, cement-based render applied in a single pass, usually two passes the same day to build thickness, then scratched back once it has firmed up to expose an even texture. It is durable and needs no painting. Because it is cement-based it is less flexible than silicone, so bead detailing and movement joints matter more.
What is external wall insulation, and is it different from rendering?
External wall insulation is insulation board mechanically fixed and bonded to the outside of the wall, then rendered over with a reinforced basecoat and a topcoat. You get a rendered finish, so it looks like a render job, but it is really an insulation job with a render skin. It thickens the wall, so window reveals, sills, the roofline and all the rainwater goods have to be reworked to suit.
How much does rendering cost in Canley?
As a guide, external rendering in Canley typically costs between £40 and £70 per square metre, depending on the system used and whether scaffolding is required. A full three-bedroom house generally falls between £2,500 and £5,000, while larger detached properties are usually in the £9,000 to £12,000 range. Every job gets a free, fixed written quote before any work starts.
