Loft Conversions in Willenhall
Every loft conversion comes down to two measurements: how much head height you have, and where a compliant staircase can land. Everything else follows those two answers.

We are 2.4 miles from Willenhall, which keeps site visits and mid-build decisions simple. We convert lofts into bedrooms, en-suites and offices, with new structural floors, compliant stairs and proper fire separation — not a boarded loft with a ladder.
Working in Willenhall
Willenhall lies 2.4 miles south-east of Coventry city centre, in the CV3 postcode district.
Within walking distance you will find St Anne's and St John the Divine, and we work on properties throughout the streets around them.
The nearest areas we also cover are Stoke Aldermoor (0.9 miles) and Binley (1.3 miles), so work in Willenhall sits inside the same run of the city.

- A loft conversion makes the stairway a protected escape route, which means fire doors downstairs.
- The existing ceiling joists are not a floor — a new floor structure is part of every conversion.
- The floor build-up and insulation take 300 to 450mm out of the raw ridge measurement.
- Sound resistance to the floor below is a regulation, not an upgrade, and it takes depth.
- If the only stair position costs a bedroom, the conversion has not added one.
The work itself, in plain terms
What we build in Willenhall lofts, 2.4 miles south-east of the city centre — structure, stairs, fire safety and finishes.
Rear dormer conversions
Dormer conversions built off a new structural floor, giving vertical walls and head height across most of the room.
Rooflight conversions
Rooflight conversions for lofts that already have the head height — least disruptive, least expensive, almost always permitted development.
Hip to gable
Hip-to-gable work, often combined with a rear dormer, for semi-detached and detached houses with hipped roofs.
Stairs & access
Stair design and installation — usually the hardest part of the layout, and the first thing we look at on survey.
Fire safety
Protected escape routes, fire doors, interlinked mains alarms and escape glazing — a large part of what Building Control inspects.
Bedrooms & en-suites
Loft bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms, with the waste routes and water pressure checked before anything is promised.
Built around how you own the property
Families needing a bedroom
An additional bedroom and often an ensuite, built into the roof you are already paying for.
Home workers
A room away from the noise, with the data and power points planned before first fix.
Landlords
Space added without extending the footprint, and signed off so it counts at valuation.
The jobs that start with a phone call
- 01
A loft room marketed as a bedroom but reached by a ladder, which stalls at the buyer's solicitor.
- 02
A chimney breast taking the best corner, removed in the loft with nothing supporting the stack above.
- 03
A modern trussed roof, where the structure has to be redesigned rather than simply opened up.
- 04
Spray foam applied to the underside of the roof, which has to be removed before anything else.
- 05
A water tank left in the middle of the new room, because the system was never changed.
- 06
A scheme that gains a bedroom upstairs and loses one downstairs to the staircase.
What we check on a property in Willenhall
Every quote starts with a survey. These are the things we look at on loft conversion work in Willenhall, and why each one changes the recommendation.
Floor level relative to the existing landing
The new floor sits above the old ceiling, so the loft floor level is set by structure, not preference. It determines the stair rise and whether headroom works.
Chimney breasts
A stack passing through the loft takes space and may need supporting or removing, which is structural work with consequences on the floors below. We note its position and condition.
Existing ceiling below
Whether it is lath and plaster or plasterboard affects how the new floor is built over it and how much disruption there will be to the rooms underneath.
Access for materials and scaffold
Steels have to get to roof level and waste has to come down. Restricted side access changes the method, sometimes to a crane lift, and that must be priced honestly.
Natural light and orientation
Which slope faces where decides how the room feels. Rooflights on a north slope give even light; a south-facing dormer may need solar-control glass to be usable in summer.
Existing roof covering and condition
If the covering is near the end of its life, a conversion is the moment to deal with it. Scaffold is up and the roof is being worked on, so doing it twice makes no sense.

Speak to us today0786 5778332Do you work on properties near St Anne's?
Yes. St Anne's is one of the landmarks we use to describe where we work in Willenhall, and we take on loft conversion jobs throughout the surrounding streets. Access and parking get checked at survey, so the quote fits the property.
What else is near Willenhall that you cover?
Willenhall sits next to Stoke Aldermoor (about 0.9 miles away), Binley (about 1.3 miles away), Baginton (about 1.6 miles away) and Lower Stoke (about 1.6 miles away). We work across the whole of that cluster, which is part of why we can usually get to a survey quickly — we are often already nearby.
Is my loft suitable for conversion?
Head height is the first test. Measure from the floor joist to the underside of the ridge: you generally want around 2.2m to 2.4m of existing height to work with, because insulation and the new floor both eat into it. Roof type matters just as much — a traditional cut roof with purlins converts readily, whereas a trussed rafter roof has W-shaped webs through the middle of the space and needs structural work to open it up.
How is a loft conversion insulated?
Usually a combination of insulation between and under the rafters, with a ventilation gap maintained above where the construction requires it. Meeting current standards while preserving head height is the balancing act, which is why high-performance insulation boards are commonly used — they achieve the required performance in less thickness. Every millimetre matters when head height is marginal.
What is the difference between a traditional cut roof and a trussed roof?
A cut roof is built on site from rafters and purlins, leaving a mostly open triangular space — typical of houses up to roughly the 1960s and the easiest to convert. A trussed rafter roof is made of prefabricated W-shaped trusses, common from the 1960s onwards, and the webs cross the usable space. Converting one means inserting steels and a new structural floor so the trusses can be cut away safely. It is entirely possible, just a bigger structural job.
Can we stay in the house during the work?
Usually yes, and most of our clients do. For much of the build the work is above the existing ceiling and reached from outside via scaffold. The disruptive phases are when the stairwell is formed through the existing ceiling, and during first fix and plastering. Dust through the landing is the main complaint, so we screen the opening.
What are the rules about the staircase?
A loft conversion needs a fixed, compliant staircase — a ladder or a spiral in place of a proper stair will not pass. The regulations set a maximum pitch of 42 degrees, minimum headroom of 2m over the stair (relaxed to 1.9m at the centre and 1.8m at the edge where the roof slopes), and rules on going and rise. Finding somewhere for the stair that works on both floors is often the hardest part of the design.
